GENTLE STRANGER KESTREL/INNER WINTER (FEAT. MARTHA SKYE MURPHY)

Ever-evolving and eccentric in the most complimentary sense of the word, experimental duo Gentle Stranger announce their new album Inner Winter with an incredible video for the double single 'Kestrel/Inner Winter'. Featuring the instantly recognisable vocals of fellow TMR tip Martha Skye Murphy, 'Kestrel' is a masterful fusion of christmassy bells, tinny hi-hats and ethereal synths. Sung through shifting vocal effects, it marks a more electronic sound for the outfit, whilst retaining their avant-folk and self-described post-clown leanings. Played out by emotive woodwind parts, 'Kestrel' comes to a quiet yet impactful conclusion before segwaying into the equally affecting 'Inner Winter'. Cradled by a heartbreaking acoustic guitar progression, icy synths set the tone before Tom Hardwick-Allan's fragile vocal delivery takes hold. Released together alongside one of the most beautiful videos we've seen for a long time, directed by William Glass, Gentle Stranger continue to identify themselves as one of the most talented and intriguing outfits around. -Holly Mullineaux
